Reyes

Reyes is a 12-year-old boy diagnosed with Menkes disease, a genetic disorder caused by a defect in the ATP7A gene that impairs the body’s ability to metabolize and distribute copper. This condition primarily affects males, occurring in approximately 1 in 35,000 births. Reyes is unable to walk and uses a power wheelchair, though he occasionally uses a walker. His mother describes him as outgoing, gentle, and fierce.

Reyes and his family set out on an unforgettable adventure from Seward, Alaska, ready to explore and search for marine life on a whale-watching charter. They were treated to orcas, sea lions, fin whales, black bears, and so much more! It was an experience that truly captured the beauty and wonder of the Alaskan wilderness. A heartfelt thank you to Major Marine Tours for going above and beyond to make this day extra special for Reyes and his family.

“We enjoyed seeing Reyes face light up when he saw the whales and other animals during the day. The entire crew was very helpful and Reyes enjoyed being the star of the day. We made life long memories and new friends that day. Thanks Dan and gang!!” - Berina, Reyes mom
