Lucia and Cruz

Lucia is a 12-year-old girl, and her brother Cruz is 6. Both are diagnosed with Ataxia Telangiectasia (A-T), a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the ATM gene, which plays a crucial role in DNA repair. A-T causes challenges with coordination, balance, and a weakened immune response.

Lucia, Cruz, Mom, and Dad embarked on a truly unforgettable helicopter adventure! After taking off and enjoying some aerial sightseeing, they landed on a glacier, where even more excitement awaited. The family then set off on a dog sledding tour across the icy expanse of the glacier, surrounded by majestic mountain peaks. After the tour, Lucia and Cruz spent some time playing with and holding the puppies. Their adventurous day concluded with a scenic helicopter ride back to their starting point. A heartfelt thank you to Alaska Helicopter Tours for donating this incredible experience and helping create a day filled with laughter, adventure, and carefree moments the family will always cherish.

“As parents and caregivers, being seen by people who truly understand with compassion, what our kids and us are dealing with, offers a comfort that we are immensely grateful for. Thank you!” - Bret, Lucia & Cruz’s dad
